Telouet - pendant (close up)

Materials: Copper wire, turquoise bead, turquoise flowers, red glass beads, peach coloured pearl beads.

Telouet - pendant

This pendant is an ode to the ruins of a kasba we visited near Telouet, in the mountains of the Atlas. In the early days, this was the power centre of the Glaoui's and the beautiful kasba, the residence of the sultan. But because of war, the sultan was driven away and the beautiful kasba was just left there.....to slowly fade away. What a shame.

The interior, or what's left of it, is stil stunning.

MOROCCAN DREAM 1 - Pendant

Today I finished a pendant from the Moroccan inspired jewelry series.
It is called "Moroccan Dream 1".

Materials: Copper wire, peach colored pearl beads, 2 big turquoise beads and brown rainbow glass beads.

I have tried to capture the feeling of beauty of the buildings and the busy, labyrinth like, streets of the Moroccan cities in one pendant.
ENJOY !

INSPIRING MOROCCO

Last February we made a trip to Marrakech in Morocco and I must say, I was deeply touched by the culture and colours of this city. The pale red builings, the smells of herbs and all kinds of food. The colours of the people's clothing and all the little shops, stuffed to the ceiling with items to sell. So great! It was like a fairytale....1001 nights.
I just LOVE this culture. If I could, I would have filled a truck with all the wonderful handmade products I saw. We also made a trip with a four-wheel drive through the mountains of the Atlas. I was impressed by the kasda's and the hard life of the people living there. These small villages have the same colour like the the mountains who surround them. It's a mysterious scene...... We also visited the famous Kasbah Ait Benhaddou with it's labyrinth of small streets. It was the scene of many movies. It only can be reached on the back of a donkey, across the river.
I am sure I will return some day. I really like to discover more of this wonderful country, like the city of Fez and Casablanca.

Morocco gave me the inspiration for a series of jewelry that capture the atmosphere and colours of this country. I am currently working on bracelets, necklaces and pendants, dedicated to the culture of Morocco. When I have photo's ready, I will show them here.
